Yesterdays Flintstones Google homepage has prompted me to think about what google doodles have been my favourite, who designed them and what they mean. I have delved deep into the archives and compiled my top 5 ever Google doodles. 5)
At number 5 is the Tetris Google. This was the homepage design on the 6
th of June 2009 and was to celebrate the 25
th year anniversary of the classic video game Tetris. Tetris was released on the 6
th of June 1984 designed by Alexey Pajitnov 4)
Number 4 is a spooky entry that freaked out millions of searchers at Halloween back in 2008. It was designed by Wes Craven who is more famous for directing some of the world’s scariest films like ‘The Hills Have Eyes’ and ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’. I think this is the scariest Google I have ever seen. Can you think of a better one? 3)
My third ever favourite Google doodle is the one that prompted me to do this blog post. This Flintstones Google was used on the 30
th of September 2010 and celebrated 50 years since the launch of iconic animation the Flintstones. If I’m honest I think the reason I have put this one so high in the list is my deep love for the program itself. 2)
My second favourite Google homepage is the infamous Google balls. This Google not only looks funky but is also increasingly interactive as the balls fly about the screen when you introduce your cursor. But what do all these bouncing balls actually mean? For once no one actually knows what the story is behind the balls, some people think it may be a celebration of Google’s 12
th anniversary although the dates don’t quite match up. Some other theories include a PR stunt for the new Google instant or to show the power of the new HTML 5 formatting. Whatever it means I’m sure millions of people enjoyed playing with Google’s balls. 1)
My number one ever Google doodle has to be the legendary pac-man doodle! This interactive pac-man doodle allows the user to play the classic game pac-man within the logo itself! This had me entertained for way longer than any other doodle could manage. It was used to celebrate pac-man’s 30
th anniversary and was on the Google homepage may 21
