We were delighted to attend the National Geographic Traveller Photography Exhibition over the weekend. Our lovely clients at CEWE Photoworld joined up with the National Geographic Traveller’s team to welcome guests for a VIP viewing of this year’s competition winners. And what fantastic photographs they were too!
With drinks and canapés a plenty, we enjoyed the stunning selection of photographs in the comfort of the Hotel du Vin in Birmingham. The stories behind each of the photos were fantastic, that we just had to share our top four with you.
The photo that got everyone talking was this fantastic action shot by 16-year-old Ellis Anastasiades who had just brought a GoPro camera. After never having used a camera in this way before, it wasn’t long before Ellis ended up with this amazing photo of himself punching through the water headfirst.
Ooh la la – this gorgeous photograph was captured by Matt Perry, during his final day of a short break in Paris. To think that he nearly left his camera at the hotel! The steps add a fabulous scale to the photograph, whilst the black and white enhances the natural beauty of the scene. C’est fantastique!
Who knew a photo as simple as this could speak volumes? Simon Morris took this mesmerising photo after staying with a family in Yamal, Siberia for two weeks. You need not ask any questions because the image shows you everything you need to know. All you have to do is look into the man’s eyes, and there you will find the pride and the hardship.
And here we come to this year’s winner – Fisheman on Inle Lake, Burma, by Jeremy Flint. This unique take on a leg rowing fisherman on an iconic sight captures a world full of tranquility and curiosity. It demonstrates a skill learnt throughout a lifetime in a simple, yet, beautiful shot. Congratulations Jeremy Flint on a truly wondrous photograph.
